Field Trip FAQs

Do you offer Education Programs?

Yes. We offer many new and exciting education programs. They not only utilize grade-appropriate activities and language, but they also align with New York State Learning Standards. In fact, we can customize our programs to meet specific teaching requirements.

I’ve called and left a message and no one has called me back!

We’re very sorry for any delay! We are working with a reduced staff and doing our best to answer each and every call.  It does sometimes take a day or two, but we have every intention of returning all calls. If this is something that can’t wait, please email us at info@amwny.com.  Please make sure if you do leave a message for our reservations team, you include the best number to call you back.

I want to come with a group, do you offer special rates?

Group rates are available for groups consisting of 15 people or more all arriving at the same time. A prior reservation must be made at least 24 hours in advance with one person paying for the entire group. To learn more, call 631.208.9200, ext. 426.

How can I pay?

We accept cash, checks and credit cards. School or organization checks should be made out to Long Island Aquarium. We also accept purchase orders or invoice payments if arrangements are made in advance. A $250 deposit is required 30 days in advance for all groups using the Atlantis Explorer Tour Boat. Please send a copy of your trip itinerary along with your deposit. Also include a copy of your tax-exempt form, if applicable. Tax-exempt organizations must submit payment via cash or organizational check/credit card in order to receive tax-exempt status.

Should I confirm my group reservation in advance?

If group size has changed significantly, please contact 631.208.9200, ext. 426.

Where does the bus drop us off?

For groups visiting the Aquarium, the arriving buses should unload at the Aquarium’s front entrance. For groups going on the Atlantis Explorer Tour Boat, arriving buses should unload in the Riverfront Parking Lot.

Where do I check-in my group?

Upon your group’s arrival, the group coordinator must proceed to Group Check-In at the Main Entrance. Please have your final headcount (separate Grades Pre-K – 5th, 6th and 7th – 12th).  Badges for each chaperone will be distributed at this time. If your group is going on the 9:30am Atlantis Explorer Tour Boat only, then please go directly to the boat.  Immediately following the trip, your group leader will go into the Aquarium to pay.

Can we bring chaperones?

Of course you can. Chaperones (minimum age 21) are key to a successful visit, and groups receive one free adult chaperone for every 10 paid admissions ages 3-21, or one free adult chaperone for each adult/senior group. Please be sure to keep your chaperone badge on at all times during your visit. School nurses and bus drivers are free of charge.

Do you offer disability access?

Our buildings and grounds have been designed to provide full access and quality experiences for special needs visitors. We are fully accessible to visitors with disabilities.

Where are the restrooms?

Men’s and women’s restrooms are located on the first floor of the Aquarium. There is one restroom (women’s) in the NY Marine Rescue Center, one in the Butterflies, Bugs & Bees lobby, and one opposite the Atlantis Café. The Family Fun Center has restroom facilities available during the summer and on school breaks. The Atlantis Explorer Tour Boat has two restrooms. Please be sure to take a photo of our Facility Map upon check-in.

Where can we eat?

The Aquarium Café is located within the Aquarium. The Riverfront Room and Riverside Pavilion are available for group lunches, as well as, the outdoor patio and picnic areas. Groups may pre-order lunches or ice cream at a discount. Bag lunches may be carried only if they remain in backpacks or totes, since we do not offer storage for lunches or personal belongings. Seaside Grill, located behind the Hyatt Place Long Island/East End, also offers lunch and dinner options seasonally, with re-entry to the Aquarium permitted.

Where can our bus pick us up?

Buses should pick up on the side of the Aquarium at the Riverfront Parking Lot. Please have your bus wait in the designated area.  Do NOT pull up to the end of the curb, by the Turkuaz restaurant.  All buses must be turned OFF while waiting. Groups will be advised upon check-in if there are any changes. Remember to schedule a departure time with your bus driver.
